What the law says!

Tread

Minimum tread depth for cars and light trailers (max 3.5 Tonnes) is 1.6mm continuously throughout three-quarters of the tread width.

Cuts

A cut in excess or 25mm or 10 % of the width of the tyre, deep enough to reach the ply or cord would deem the tyre illegal.

Mixing Types

It is illegal to mix tyre types (radial and cross-ply) except for when used in the case of an emergency such as a spare tyre in a breakdown.
